The Davis Academy Prayer Canvas

This week marked the 1st anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing. In the months following the bombing The Davis Academy middle school participated in the creation of two "prayer canvases." The first was made as part of our 1/2 day of Thanksgiving programming and the 2nd was part of a day of interfaith programming with our interfaith partner, The Marist School. We knew the canvases would line the course of the marathon but other than that we didn't know much. What we knew is that the creation of these canvases provided us with an opportunity to make meaning and beauty out of the hatred and ugliness that led to the bombings in the first place.

During Passover of 2014 we received two glimpses into how our prayer canvases have been received. The first, and perhaps most exciting, is that our prayer canvases was captured in a photo that accompanied an article in the Boston Globe!  The second is a photo of the interfaith prayer canvas on display in Boston that was shared with us via twitter:
