A few of our kindergarten students were sad when they realized the didn't have school this Friday. They asked their teacher if they could "Play Shabbat" during Jewish Studies time. We've all heard that a picture is worth a thousand words. These pictures, and the story that they tell, are truly priceless.
In order to miss Shabbat, one must first love Shabbat. In order to love Shabbat, one must be part of a community that values and honors Shabbat.
The amount of people "implicated" in these photos is quite astounding. Our Friday morning Kabbalat Shabbat at The Davis Academy, which is where these children have learned to love Shabbat, is made special because of the hundreds (or thousands) of students, parents, grandparents, teachers, administrators, and visiting guests that collectively invest our weekly celebration with ruach (spirit) and kavod (honor).
Though unbeknownst to the two children in these pictures, they are fulfilling the dreams of all of us that care about the Jewish people and giving hope to all of us that believe in the mission, vision, and teachings of the Jewish faith.
