At the most basic level, menschlichkeit means being a good person. It means taking action during times of need. It means honoring the ethical responsibility that each of us has for our neighbor, even if we don't know our neighbor's name.
The letter below, from the mayor of Sandy Springs, recognizes the menschlichkeit of Pepe Pasillas, The Davis Academy's Operations Manager. Putting aside his own needs, Pepe helped transform our Davis Academy gym into an emergency shelter during the most recent snow storm.
In order for The Davis Academy to instill our core values, our menschlichkeit values, in our children, we need adult role models. We need teachers, parents, and operations managers, like Pepe, who show our children what it means to live according to our values. Kudos to Pepe, and all our adult role models, who are guiding our children toward becoming mensches.
