Blessings from our Teachers

As the 2015 Israel Trip draws near a number of our teachers responded to an invitation to share blessings and wishes with the 8th graders. Here are their blessings. We will carry them with us!

Mechina Backpacks remind us of the journey that's led us here and the journey that awaits in Israel.

Make the very most of every day on this special adventure and take in all the sights, smells and sounds that connect you to the people, the land, the stories, and the past, present and future of Israel and of our people:
·         Sleep on the plane
·         Taste shwarma and Falafel with enthusiasm
·         Speak Hebrew with confidence
·         Sing and dance as if no one else is watching
·         Remember your hat and your sunscreen and Ma-yim J (*drink water)
·         Look after your friends and be kind to one another all the time
·         Say thank you to your chaperones the bus driver and the  Madrichim
·         Think of your mom on Mother’s Day since she’ll be thinking of you everyday
·         Try to make ice cream an everyday experience, and
·         Don’t walk behind the camels! ;)
Remember that you are blessed to have this incredible opportunity and that you are a blessing to our Davis Academy family and the Jewish people.
-Ms. Shafron

As you travel through Israel, I hope you are able to enjoy the moments AND appreciate the big picture of where you really are. If this is your first visit, I hope it’s the first of many. If you are returning to Israel, I hope you see it through new eyes. To travel with your classmates and teachers is a unique blend of friends and family, adults and teens, that you will NEVER re-create. Try everything: speak Hebrew, taste the foods, enjoy the smell of the camels (ha!), sing around the fire, marvel in the skills of your bus drivers, talk with your guards, your medic, your chaperones, write things down in your journal. You won’t be able to remember everything!
Travel with ruach, peace, love, and sense of belonging. As they say in Israel, welcome home!

-Ms. London

In preparation for our trip to Israel we heard the profound testimony of Murray Linn, an Atlanta resident and Holocaust survivor.

Wishing you a safe journey to Israel. While you are there remember to drink your water, wear your sunscreen and hat and most importantly listen to your chaperones. May you enjoy all of the sites and take in all of the beauty. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to share this experience with your Davis Kehillah. We will miss you!

-          Ms. Ferrar

“Life is not about having and getting, but about being and becoming”- This quote always feels so relevant during times marking important milestones.  Too often we are consumed by what we have and what we can get; this trip to Israel represents such an important part of your being and becoming.  You take with you the composite of your life until now, but as you are there, you will undoubtedly experience new growth.    That you share this with many to whom your undeniably bound accentuates your experiences.  Enjoy, cherish, feel, share- be open to all that awaits.  We are proud of you.

- Mr. Rothstein

I hope you have an amazing experience in your home land.  May your trip be filled with love, laughter, learning, and friendship.

-          Ms. Chatlen

May Israel be more than a faraway place from stories. May Israel become part of your present. And may Israel remain a presence in your heart for years and years to come.

-          Ms. Hegarty

Students wrote post-it note responses to the blessings from their teachers.

I hope you all have the experience of a lifetime!  Enjoy every minute!!!

-          Mr. Gersten

The world is a book and those that do not travel only read a page.  Be curious and explore all that Israel has to offer.  I hope you have a great adventure and learn something about yourself.

-          Mr. Heyen

I hope the golden rays of the Jerusalem sun glimmer upon your skin,
And may the sunrise at Masada light you from within.
I pray the waters of our ancestors refresh your souls as well
And may the blessing of שָׁלוֹם inside each of you eternally dwell.
As you walk upon ancient stones and among the modern throng
May the blessing of this two-week gift be with you your whole life-long.

-          Ms. Stein

My hope is that you will feel  a lifelong connection with and love for  YOUR homeland and that you will return “home” many times; be proud of this amazing country that has accomplished so much in such a little time.

-          Ms. Fields

I hope that you have a safe and amazing trip!  May you develop memories and friendships that will last you a lifetime!

-          Ms. Healan

May God keep you safe & help to open your eyes and heart so that you not only see and feel Israel, but that you experience Israel and all it has to offer you.  Keep an open mind, be kind, be loving, and be thankful and cherish the memories you will make as you experience Eretz Yisrael.

-          Mr. Barry

8th graders: May you all have safe, meaningful, exciting, inspiring travels in Israel!! I hope that you all appreciate the amazing country you will be in, really live in the moment while you are there, enjoy each other, and eat some yummy felafel!!

-          Ms. Ganz

My wish for all of you is that you allow your mind and heart to be open to all you see and feel.  Israel, our homeland, is truly a beautiful, and unique place. I hope you have moments of wonder, contemplation, and love.  What a blessing to be able to share this experience with your dear friends, classmates, and teachers.  Have a wonderful trip.

-          Ms. Lefkovits

May G-D bless you and guard you
May G-D make His face shed light upon you and be gracious unto you
May G-D lift up His face unto you and give you peace

-          Morah Sigal

May you come to see that you are Yisrael and may the land of Israel forever instill itself in your hearts.

-          Rabbi Micah

I hope you experience what you have been studying and participating in over the last 10 years.  Israel is special, take the trip in.  Listen and learn in person….
